AFTERCARE ADVICE

•Following any plasma treatment, most people experience a mild burning sensation similar to sunburn. This will disappear after a couple of hours.

● Depending upon your skin sensitivity tolerance this discomfort may last a little longer. If the area feels particularly uncomfortable, anti-inflammatory medication can be taken. Please consult a pharmacist prior to taking any over the counter medication.

● As a natural healing response, it is usual for the treated area to become very swollen, especially around the more delicate areas such as the eyes. This can last from 3 to 8 days in most cases.

● There will be a light crusting on the skin after treatment and a deeper crust in the areas dotted. These must not be picked as this can disrupt the healing process. The crusting simply flakes off after a few days but in some cases can take over 1 week.

● DO NOT pick at this crusting as it can lead to infection or scarring. Likewise, it is important to keep the treated area clean.

● The area should be wiped down with alcohol wipes at night and then a hyaluronic acid or serum applied for moisture and to decrease down time. This should be repeated a minimum of 2x per day.

● If you wish to wear makeup it should be ONLY recommended products for the first 3 days and a mineral based make up until fully healed.

● You may find the application of ice packs or hydrating mask can soothe and help reduce swelling.

● In extreme cases, the swelling can last several days and may initially interfere with vision.

● Initially after treatment and for a day or so afterwards, there may be occasional weeping. This is simply plasma and is a natural healing response.

● This simply flakes off after a few days but in some cases can take over 1 week.

● DO NOT pick at this crusting as it can lead to infection or scarring. Likewise, it is important to keep the treated area clean and dry. For 12 hours after treatment

● No make-up for 48 hours after treatment

● No sauna

● No sunbeds

● No sun exposure

● No Botox, collagen injections of dermal fillers For 1 week after treatment

● No swimming

● Do not use anti-ageing creams

● Do not use AHA’s, Glycolic or Retinol

● Do not use exfoliating products At all times during the course of treatment

● A minimum of SPF30/50must be applied and exposure to the sun should be avoided

● Regular moisturising with either Serum or hyaluronic acid is vital to replenish moisture and prevent the skin from becoming dry and peeling

DAY-BY-DAY AFTERCARE:

DAY 1:

  • Immediately and shortly after treatment there may be some swelling and fluid retention, especially around the eyes. A CLEAN (wiped down with alcohol or wrapped in a freezer bag) DRY COLD COMPRESS can be used to mitigate this. DRY! DO NOT DAMPEN OR WET THE TREATMENT AREA.

  • However, swelling is not a bad thing and is a natural part of the healing process, so don’t try to “treat” it with anything other than cold compress and only use that if you feel you really need

  • The eye area is the most prone to swelling, so do expect it and allow yourself a full 24 hours to let this subside. Re-apply the healing product supplied – morning and night for first 2 days, every 4 hours, with clean fingers.

  • This healing product can be used till the crusts fall off

DAY 1 – 4:

  • Especially in the eye area, swelling peaks upon waking, first thing in the morning. Over the course of the first 1-3 days, it is normal for the swelling to migrate down into the under eye area. This will subside generally through day 3 and be mostly normal by day

  • The area will feel hot, like a sunburn for about the first 24 This is normal. The sensation should subside 24 – 48 hours.

  • Treatment zones will feel tight both immediately post procedure and for the first 2 to 4

  • You will likely experience the area feeling slightly itchy from about days 2-5. This is a normal part of the healing process. DO NOT ITCH OR SCRATCH THE DOTS. DO NOTHING TO ABRADE THEM IN ANY WAY.

DAY 5:

Beginning around day 5 the dots will begin to shed naturally, on their own, and this will continue possibly up to about day 10. LET THIS HAPPEN NATURALLY, DO NOTHING TO ABRADE THEM IN ANY WAY. Use of Powder mineral makeup is permitted from Day 3.

DAY 10:

By day 10 your carbon dots should be gone and you can resume your body care, physical activity and makeup use as normal.

  • IT IS IMPORTANT TO KEEP THE TREATED AREA PROTECTED FROM SUN EXPOSURE. So that means avoiding direct exposure, covering the area or sunblock for at least the 8 weeks.

WEEK 2 – 4:

Treated areas slightly pink and could be slightly tender to the touch.

WEEKS 5 – 8:

Continual improvement both in sensation, texture, look and feel. By week 8 the treated area will have completely blended with the untreated areas.

MONTH 3-6:

Reschedule follow-up appointment should this be required.
